BUILDING GUIDES AND
APPLICATIONS
The
Building Services Department is responsible for the
administration of the Ontario Building Code Act and the
Town's Zoning By-law. The Department reviews permit
applications, ensures that all other applicable laws are
complied with, issues building permits and provides
inspections for all new or renovated buildings through
the following three divisions:
Administration
Permits and Zoning: contact 905-845-6601, ext. 7376
Inspection Services: contact 905-845-6601, ext. 4220
Committee of Adjustment: contact 905-845-6601, ext. 3144
For
general email inquiries of the Building Services
Department, contact
building@oakville.ca.
Changes to OBC came into effect on July 1, 2005. Visit
the
Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing for
details or download the
Building in Oakville brochure (pdf, 86 kB).
The
Department is structured as an Enterprise and as such
the costs of processing, issuing and inspecting the work
emanating from building permits is supported solely from
the revenues generated by building permit fees.
The Building Services Department is mandated by
Provincial legislation to implement the requirements of
Bill 124 as it amends the Building Code Act, and this
will be our greatest challenge in 2004 - 2006. The new
regulations require that the Building Department must
now meet mandated time frames for permit issuance,
perform mandated inspections and that all Building
Services staff must be certified to Provincial
standards.
The
Building Services Department is responsible for the
review and inspection of all new or renovated buildings
to ensure compliance with the Ontario Building Code (OBC)
and the Town's Building By-law. Information about these
matters as well as copies of the applications are
available below.
The
Committee of Adjustment processes
applications for minor variances to the Zoning By-law,
Consent and Variance to the Fence By-law.
