Having
the house inspected by a qualified home inspector will give you an
opportunity to learn more about the home you are about to purchase, and
give you the added confidence that you have made the right decision.
Purchasing a home is the largest investment most of us will make. This
process requires the expert assistance of an experienced Realtor and a
qualified registered home inspector. The Canadian Association of Home &
Property Inspectors (CAHPI) has established the most widely recognized
standard of quality for home inspections nationwide.
A qualified Registered Home Inspector will examine the home's
major systems including...
-
Electrical
-
Plumbing
-
Heating
-
Roofing
-
Foundation
-
Interior & Exterior
The home inspector will not make the buying decision for you. An
inspector can provide you with the information you need to help make
that decision wisely.
You will benefit most from your inspection if you can be at the house
during the inspection. The home inspection is the perfect opportunity
to become familiar with the house. Do not hesitate to ask questions. A
good inspector will be glad to take the time to explain proper
maintenance and operating procedures for many of the building
components.
When choosing your inspector, be sure to ask about experience
and professional qualifications.
Home inspection is a unique discipline requiring special training,
knowledge, and communication skills that differ substantially from those
of other building professions. Non affiliated home inspectors are
generalist with a comprehensive knowledge on many systems. Membership
in a CAHPI provincial organization assures that a professional home
inspector has demonstrated the ability to meet or exceed the CAHPI
standards of practice.
What does this mean for you?
Peace of mind and more protection for you. You can be assured when
you hire a member of a CAHPI provincial/regional organization to inspect
your home, you are hiring a professional with proven ability, experience
and impartiality. To find an inspector in your city click on the

Home
inspections began as a consumer service in the early 1970's in direct
response to the growing demand by home buyers. It soon became apparent
that selecting a Home Inspector was becoming as important as finding the
right home. To meet this need, the Canadian Association of Home &
Property Inspectors (CAHPI) (new modified name) was formed in 1982; this
is the national Association that all provincial organizations are
members of. Nationally, the home inspection profession is growing
rapidly, and CAHPI now has provincial organizations across Canada. All
of these organizations are part of a national initiative with government
agencies to maintain national standards for the home inspection
profession.
The OAHI is the CAHPI member in Ontario and was formed in 1987. On
December 9th, 1994, the OAHI became a self-regulating professional body
when the Ontario Association of Home Inspectors Act received royal
assent , granting the OAHI the exclusive right to define qualification
requirements, regulate its members and grant the designation "Registered
Home Inspector" and "RHI" to qualified practitioners in the Province of
Ontario.
The OAHI is dedicated to enhancing the
technical skills and professional practice of home inspectors, and
maintaining high professional standards through education and
discipline.
